The most successful company so far is now down one point with the first of its kind major controversy lurking around it regarding the recently launched and worldwide acclaimed voice software Siri. The voice software and the revolutionary voice recognition search service packed in the most advanced iPhone launched till date, supposedly has triggered protests from the abortion rights advocates.

Siri is one of the most popular features of the newly launched iPhone 4S but it has drawn the indignation from many bloggers and the aforementioned abortion rights activists from the National Abortion and Reproductive Rights Action League as the search feature of Siri was unable to locate any abortion clinics when it was asked about them. Nancy Keenan, the president of National Abortion and Reproductive Rights Action League immediately wrote an email to the Chief Executive Officer of Apple complaining and in which she wrote that in some cases, the software from Apple was unable to provide the customers with information which was accurate of competent enough related to the women’s reproductive health services. This inability of the Voice recognition search software to give the right information was told to be unintentional by the company officials.

They said that since this feature of the iPhone was still in Beta or testing phase, it might not pull up information regarding everything that is searched using it. Natalie Harrison, the spokesperson of Apple said that the customers use the software Siri to search all types of information. While the software can find most of the information, it will not find information you require at all times. She added that these omissions by the voice recognition search software are not intentional form the part of the company and they definitely were not made to offend anyone. This simply means, she further said, that as the company tries to bring the software from the beta stage to a final product, there will be many places where the company will be able to do better than before and these better results will be attained in the next few weeks, Harrison assured.

According to the website of the National Abortion and Reproductive Rights Action League, that posted the email sent to the Chief Executive officer of Apple on the websites page, Tim Cook, replied to the President of NARAL with a similar statement. A plethora of online sources is utilized by Apple in order to search the content requested the main resource being the review website Yelp for local business.
